6 DAYS ENTER NARO MORU EXIT CHOGORIA

 

Day 1 - Nairobi/Mt Kenya: Depart Nairobi in the morning arriving Naro Moru in time for lunch. After lunch you proceed to Mt Kenya Youth Hostel for dinner and overnight.

Day 2 - Met Station: After breakfast, proceed to Naro Moru Park Gate and start hiking to Met Station (3300m). The hiking takes about 3 hrs. Dinner and overnight.

Day 3 - Mackinders Camp: Depart Met Station after breakfast and proceed to Teleki Valley arriving Mackinders Camp (4300m) early evening. Picnic lunch enroute. Dinner and overnight.

Day 4 - Austrian Camp: Depart at 10:00 am after breakfast ascending along a steep screw to Austrian Hut (4700m). Covering this distance takes about 3 hrs. Dinner and overnight.

Day 5 - Point Lenana-Chogoria: Departing at 5:30 am, proceed through Lewis Glacier to Point Lenana(4985m) arriving approx. 6:30 am in the morning. After the sunrise, descend down to Mintos Hut for full breakfast. Later descend along the famous Gorges Valley to Chogoria campsite. Dinner and overnight.

Day 6 - Chogoria- Nairobi: After breakfast, set on morning journey to Chogoria (32km).4WD vehicles are provided but during the bad weather, climbers have to walk some distance as vehicles may not reach the bandas. From Chogoria transport is provided back to Nairobi, arriving late afternoon.

 

5 DAYS ENTER SIRIMON OUT NARO MORU

 

DAY 1 - Nanyuki:  Departure from Nairobi is at 0930 hrs to Nanyuki for dinner and overnight.
DAY 2 - Old Moses: Vehicle transfer to Sirimon gate & hike to Old Moses camp (3300m) for overnight. (6 to 8 hrs hike).
DAY 3 - Shipton's Camp: Hike Shipton's camp (4200m) for overnight (5 to 7 hrs hike)
DAY 4 - Lenana Point: Attempt on point Lenana at 0300 hrs and descend leisurely to Met Station for dinner and overnight.
DAY 5 -
Naro Moru-Nairobi: Descend the mountain to Naro Moru town with vehicle transfer back to Nairobi.  

Mountain Climbing Equipment List
• Headlamp
• Walking pole(s)
• Sleeping Bag
• Gaiters: To keep mud, rocks, and snow out of your boots
• Water purification: essential as water for drinking is taken directly from mountain streams
• Hiking Boots: Comfortable/waterproof pair of hiking boots which offer plenty of support.

Make sure they are broken in before you get to Kilimanjaro!
Other Check list (limit yourself)

  • 1 set of thermal underwear (top & bottom)

  • 1 sleeping bag (rating 0 C or four seasons)

  • 1 warm jersey/sweater (wool)

  • 1 sleeping pad/mat

  • 1 pair of track suit top & bottom

  • 1 light towel

  • 1 polar fleece/down vest

  • 1 pair of light loose fitting cotton trousers

  • 1 waterproof jacket (with a hood) & pants

  • 1 to 2 long sleeves shirts (cotton/wool)

  • 4 pairs of thermal hiking socks

  • 2 to 3 T-shirts/shirts

  • 2 pairs of thermal socks liner

  • 2 to 3 pairs of shorts (with pockets)

  • 1 pair of hiking boots

  • 1 wide brimmed hat / baseball cap

  • 1 pair of sneakers/trainers/talkies

  • 1 pair of warm heavy weight gloves/mittens

  • 1 pair of gaiters

  • 1 pair of light weight gloves (inner gloves)

  • 1 bandana

  • 1 pair of sunglasses/mountaineering glasses

  • 1 balaclava

  • 1 wool hat

  • 1 warm scarf

NB: Make sure that your boots are waterproof
