Lake Manyara National Park is situated a short distance from Arusha town. Within the park, there is a lake which lies on the eastern part of the Great Rift Valley. The national park is widely known to host various animals and bird species such as baboons, wild beests, buffalos, warthogs, giraffes, elephants and others. Besides having various animals, Lake Manyara National Park is also home to numerous species of birds; this has made this park attractive to bird lovers. It is estimated that as of now, there are close to over four hundred bird species which inhabit this park. Some of the bird’s species migrate from the park and return during particular seasons. Some of the bird species which can be found in various locations within this park include flamingoes, the grey headed kingfisher, the long crested eagle, herons and many others.

Similarly, Lake Manyara National Park is also known for being home to various trees species such as mahogany, fig trees and baobabs; most of them being estimated to be over two hundred years old.

It is believed that there are underground streams which flow from the crater highlands to support the growth of these trees. Visitors coming to lake Manyara National Park not only enjoy watching animals, but can also participate in recreational activities such as hiking, bike riding, horse riding and guided trekking within the park.
Lake Manyara is also home to tree climbing lions; this is thought to be the only location where one can get to see them. Fond memories created during a visit to Lake Manyara National Park are what make many visitors come back. In addition, many find it convenient to visit this park because it is near the other important parks such as the Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Arusha town.
