Ngorongoro Conservation Area
The Ngorongoro Crater is perhaps the most renowned part of the ngorongoro conservancy area. What is not known to many people is that the conservancy area covers most of the demarcated boundary areas which form part of the wider Ngorongoro area. Another famous part of the Ngorongoro conservation area is the Olduvai Gorge where the Leakeys did an impressive work which has helped many people to understanding the history of mankind. It is in this particular area where significant fossil remains and tools were excavated.
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area as it is known today was created as a settlement area for the Maasai community, who are traditionally pastoralists known to have maintained a distinctive prescience with the activities here. The Maasai are known to be fierce warriors and at one time resisted the British authority which was in charge at the time. Unlike in other parks where people are not allowed to settle in the game parks; here they areĀ allowed to use certain sections of land within the conservancy.
In addition to the above, within the Ngorongoro Conservancy, there is a smaller crater known as Empakai which is also fascinating for visitors to see. The Ngorongoro Conservancy is home to many animals and is also an important migration route for wildebeests and zebras which move across the plains during particular seasons in search of fresh grass. There is a concentration of large and small animals in different parts of the crater; this concentration is perhaps the main reason why you will hardly miss seeing some of the predatory animals such as the lions and cheetahs. Because of the prudent management of the NCA, it will continue to be an important destination for local and international tourists.
