The first thing you notice about Shaba and Neighboring Samburu national parks is that they are worlds apart from other Kenyan Parks. Shaba National Park is not well-known making it less crowded as compared to most Kenyan reserves. Shaba National park is situated on the banks of Ewaso Ngiro river, this river is the lifeblood the both people and wildlife in the area.

The presence of the river and its shady trees attracts plenty of wildlife, especially when dry seasons sets in, Giraffe, Buffaloes, Waterbucks, Zebras, Lions and Leopards are some of the dominant game to spot. The sparse vegetation around the park makes game viewing enjoyable, however a part of the Shaba National Park is swampy and along such is where you find the waterbucks and most wildlife.

For birding safaris, the National park records around 365 species of birds, most of these birds concentrate along the river banks. Some exiting scene to watch can be of the rare gerenuks, these are odd, yet distinguished looking gazelles that have long necks and stand on their hinds to feed. Sarova Shaba Lodge is the best accommodation site in the park, these lodge is serene and popular in offering the best kind of  accommodation to any guests. Foods served at the lodge are quite delicious and prepared to meet both local and international standards. It is very important to inquire more about visiting Shaba before you arrange final safari arrangements, your safari needs may dictate the season to visit the park. Overlooking the Shaba National Park is the Buffalo spring and the Samburu National Reserve.
